walking for my money

I love the rain.  Especially when I don’t have to go out in it, but today was something of an exception.

I’ve been delegated at work as the new person to go around delivering our flyer with film information and session times to different cafés and shops in some of the neighbourhoods around where we’re located.  It’s actually a fairly decent area consisting of the CBD, and shopping areas in Brunswick, Carlton, Fitzroy and Collingwood.  I was told I’d probably want to get a bike, but I’m a walker so I’ll just kind of be wandering around I guess.

Today was my first day doing it, and the guy I’m taking it over from took me around some of the places close to the cinema, then we split up with him taking the CBD and Brunswick (being further away) leaving me with the rest.  He gave me a list that the previous guy had given him and sort of left me to it.

This lead to lots of consulting google maps to find out where these places actually were and some to-ing and fro-ing.  But I actually got really into it.

I had been fairly dubious about wanting to take this on, but I didn’t want to say no to guaranteed hours, and my worries were soon gone because most of the places I went into were really into it.  Some of them didn’t even seem to have been getting the flyers delivered recently (not sure what happened there) but they were happy to see me.  Some of them didn’t even know that they had been getting them previously but were still pretty keen.

I guess because who doesn’t like the movies, right?  And we give them free movie passes every month.  Win-win!

I quite enjoyed just wandering through the (non torrential) rain and looking at shops and that kind of thing.  I even came home with a couple of new books.  I can kind of foresee this ending up being pretty dangerous because I will be delivering to some pretty sweet places and I do like to purchase the things (junk shops, anybody?).
